What Gray?

A client of mine is a mom like most of us, that rarely takes the time to get herself pampered.

Those darn gray hairs needed some toning down a bit,

and the weight of her hair drove her crazy.

It was a fun fix up and it was good to see her feel so much better:)

Things have been busy which has been great, so I can't complain.

Bleach blonde hair is just not in anymore

It takes a lot of money to achieve a blonde look, or should i say, maintain it.
But today a client & I decided to soften her blonde look to lessen the amount of hair appts needing to be schedule to maintain that regrowth. Very smart for those clients wanting to save some money & I love the way it looks now :)

Hair Myths Revealed

Myth 1: Hair becomes immune to shampoo over time.

Truth: There’s no scientific evidence to back this claim, but there is proof that styling products can build up and alter the effectiveness of your regular shampoo and conditioner. Bear in mind that the water supply where you live, as well as coloring or perming treatments, can cause your hair to behave inconsistently. To eliminate reside, use a clarifying treatment once every two weeks.

Myth 2: Lemon juice will turn your hair blonde.

Truth: Squeezing lemon juice onto your strands and sitting in the sun for prolonged periods is said to lighten your locks. Chances are, however, that you won’t see any obvious changes. Another drawback? Dryness. If you want to bring out your natural highlights without dye, consider a color-depositing shampoo.

Myth 3: Hair requires daily washing.

Truth: The best treatment for hair (especially dry hair) is its own oil, so wash it less often. Different types of hair have different needs, so the key to maintenance is using products created for your type and condition. While people with dry hair can skip a day or two of shampooing, oilier hair often requires a daily lather to keep up appearances. No matter what your schedule, find a formulation that suits your mane. Cutting back on buildup, caused by constant touching or heavy styling products, will allow you to go longer between shampoos.

Myth 4: If you pluck one gray hair, three will sprout in its place.

Truth: Some women are quick to yank a gray hair; others leave it be for fear multiples will grow in its place. It takes three months for a new hair to rear its head and another three for it to grow to a noticeable length. If more grays happen to pop up during this six-month span, they may be attributed to time or stress, not plucking. Regardless, yanking is a harmful habit that can damage the follicle and break other hairs (especially if you use tweezers), so resist the urge.

Myth 5: Mayonnaise doubles as hair conditioner.

Truth: In addition to its pungent scent, mayonnaise can make the hair look and feel greasy and tangled. Its ingredients—vegetable oil, eggs and vinegar—will weigh down your hair in the worst way. Looking for a moisture boost? Use a heavy-duty treatment that’s specifically made for use on your hair.

Myth 6: Hair grows faster and thicker if you indulge in regular trims.

Truth: Oh, how we wish this was true! A cut can certainly make fine hair appear fuller, but it does not change the fact that hair grows about half an inch every month. Your best bet for scoring luscious locks is to eat plenty of protein-rich fish, lean meat and eggs and to treat it like silk. Keep breakage at bay by brushing gently and cutting back on the use of heated styling tools.

Myth 7: Split ends can be meded.

Truth: Contrary to the claims of many reparative conditioning products (which seal ends only temporarily), the only real cure for split ends is to nip them off with scissors. Otherwise, they will continue to run like a nylon stocking nightmare. --Stephanie Simons

My #1 hair tip for summer is.....

ALWAYS rinse your hair prior to swimming. You do NOT want your hair sucking up all that pool water. The chlorine will dry out your hair and fade your color quicker. And you blondes beware because you are in the most "danger" you don't want green hair, right? oh believe me, it happens!

My #2 hair tip for summer is......

Condition like crazy. And even let it sit on there for a while. My fave it Biolage Conditioning Balm.

My #3 hair tip for summer is......

Find a hair serum that you like and use it.

I like Biosilk. Just a dime size in my palm and then rubbed into the ends of my hair. It really helps heal those dry ends and helps protect.

Took off lots on length, added tons of layers, bangs, and tons of tiny ombre highlights.

It turned out awesome! (again, pics don't ever do it justice) We had a lot of fun w/ texturing :)

This gal pal was an adorably sexy clown for Halloween.

Only one problem though....

She couldn't get the pink out of her hair.

She had already stripped her hair 2 or 3 times before finally calling me for help.

I got some of it out, but this stubborn pink likes it's porous hair & was not budging.

She wanted to stay long and blonde so I did what I could.

We took off layers, added some more low & highlights and we were done.

(still a little pink, but we are calling it strawberry-blonde:)

(this pic looks like we took off way more length then we did. Her new boyfriend had just gotten there so I don't think she was in the mood for taken pics- so this was all I got:)

Lesson learned:

Don't try a new brand of Hair Color Spray w/o testing it 1st

This new client likes playing with color and wanted the dramatic chunky look.

I'm happy with how it turned out because she was simply ecstatic!

I'm so happy I could give her exactly what she wanted.

She was even more surprised how I feathered the ends and even though I didn't get a great pic of the bangs, I think they were my favorite part.

The under layer was dark and I kept a few of the blonde feathered over the top. It gave it a "Rock n Roll" vibe.

My niece was in desperate need of her 1st haircut.

Her hair was so uneven (especially when she took scissors to it last month right in the front).

We text her Dad (Scott's brother) to see if we could give her a trim, ha ha! I had full intention of giving it a full cut the whole time.

This picture doesn't do it justice, It was sooooo uneven, thin and straggly.

As long as cartoons were on this girl held perfectly still.

the bangs are still growing in and will still be another couple months or so until they will look good again. This totally give her hair a ticker look and will be a whole lot easier to take care of.

Yesterday I gave Janina a little lesson on men's haircutting.

Watching her totally brought me back to my school days:)

You forget how awkward it is to get things going and feel comfortable and confident @ the same time.

She did great & looked like a pro!

Since Janina was my 1st Pupil she received a discount.

I would really like some feedback on a fair price. Janina received one 1 1/2 hr lesson.

I want to give a fair price for all, but want it to be worth my time.

I am still figuring out details & would just like a little more input from you all.

I will offer a class package for $45.00.

This will include a packet with basic haircutting info & three classes to come learn and practice with me.

You can bring your own clients to work on. So they will basically receiving free haircuts. ($30+ value)

I will hold classes on Saturdays starting the end of March.

I will limit 3 to a class so I can give you one on one time.

I will work on my own client as you work on yours so we can go step by step together.

Please answer the following:

Does this seem like a manageable price for you?
Do you own shears & clippers? If not would you like recommendations on some that I can pick up for you.
Do you see yourself bringing your husband or son, or both with you as a client? (I am considering having Men's classes & boys classes. So everyone brings the same type of client)
I will probably hold classes 2 Saturday's a month & you can pick which date is good for you. Remember you can come to 3 classes to learn & practice. Do Saturday's work best for you?

Ashley needed a new cut.

The long look was too hot and in the way all the time.

So we did this....

I have been horrible at taking pictures of my clients.

These last 2 weeks have been jammed full of appointments and I feel like I couldn't be more blessed. I have also received more client referrals- YAY! Keep them coming:)

With these little ladies, plus their baby brother having his 1st hair cut, I cut off over a foot of hair. They all did wonderful!

Jessica came today for a day of pampering. She is just about the cutest pregnant lady you have ever seen, but she is about to pop! She has only a few days left and today was spent getting a haircut & some color done. Afterwards she was getting a mani/pedi.

I added some high & low lights, just to give her that extra glow:)

We also stacked it high in the back w/ a very dramatic a-line leaving lots of length in the front.

& I seriously just LOVE her bangs!

This morning my Sis Cami & friend Taylor Came over for some low-lights.

I used a level 3 for them both.

Cami's pic cracks me up cause she looks like a ghost from the sunlight shining through the window. Love you Friend!

My Aunt "A" needed a little more "style" to her cut. So i took it up quit a bit and added some very pieced layers (i need to purchase a new razor, so it was little difficult w/ the shears) but i thought it turned out really good i think.

Do you see a trend in my hair cuts- apparently short cuts are "In" right now:)

"J" received an awesome color this morning as well, but of course i forgot to take a pic before she left- I better remember next time.

Little "A" will be getting baptized next weekend and because it's such a special day, she need a

beautiful haircut.

This is pretty much the same cut i did a couple months ago, we just took it a little shorter.

"A" line & stacked pretty steep in the back. We also added some shorter bangs.

"Sissy" had very very thin hair- Almost baby like & she is 4!

The intention was to "bob" it but i knew she didn't have enough hair to hold that style well enough half way through the cut.

But good ole Diaper Dive Mom found a beautiful way to style it.
